The Living Weekly publications began with the Adel Adviser, which was launched in 2004 by Horizon Printing. Company owner Dan Juffer saw an opportunity to provide announcements, news and information to the community in a free, single-sheet publication that was available in dozens of locations in the city. The Adel Adviser also published online, and a digital edition was emailed out as well. Juffer joined the staff of Big Green Umbrella Media in 2017, and the Adel Adviser became part of the family of publications of the company as well. In 2017, the Johnston Adviser was launched. In 2018, the Grimes Adviser was created. In 2019, the Waukee Adviser began. In 2020, Big Green Umbrella Media purchased the Polk City Square, an online-only publication with a digital-only format that was converted to the Polk City Adviser later that year. In 2021, the Adviser publications were renamed to Living Weekly to tie in with the Iowa Living magazines brand. Today, Big Green Umbrella Media publishes Living Weekly publications in the Adel, Johnston, Grimes/Dallas Center, Waukee and Polk City markets with a continued focus on the printed publications that are complemented with digital editions sent via email.
